The Full Story

Italy Turner leads with resilience, empathy, and a strong commitment to helping others succeed. Through her work with Goodwill Industries of North Georgia, she has grown from an entry-level team member on an AbilityOne® contract into a respected supervisor whose leadership strengthens both her team and daily operations. As a single mother balancing family responsibilities while building her career, Turner brings determination, perspective, and care to the workplace every day.

Since starting in 2020, Turner has steadily advanced through several roles, including forklift operator and clerk III, before being promoted to clerical supervisor and, most recently, to alternate project manager. In every position, she demonstrated reliability, initiative, and the ability to stay calm under pressure, the kinds of qualities that quickly distinguished her as a natural leader. As Scott Parry, vice president of facility services, said: "She led not with authority, but with care—listening, problem-solving, and making sure everyone had what they needed."

Turner has remained a steady presence for her coworkers. She focuses on listening, solving problems collaboratively, and helping team members feel confident and supported in their roles. She developed training sessions that strengthened skills, created step-by-step guides for new hires, and helped connect employees with mentors who could support their growth. These efforts helped reduce errors, improve productivity, and build a stronger, more confident team.

Turner also looks beyond her immediate responsibilities to improve how work gets done. By collaborating with colleagues in receiving, she helped streamline documentation processes, saving time and improving workflow across the operation. Her willingness to step in where needed has made a lasting impact on both efficiency and team culture.

Equally important is Turner’s dedication to uplifting others as she advances. She has mentored multiple coworkers as they moved into new roles, encouraging them to develop their skills and confidence while creating opportunities for growth within the organization. The success of those she has supported reflects her belief that leadership is about helping others move forward.

Turner’s journey to her management role reflects perseverance, hard work, and a commitment to continuous learning. Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree to further strengthen her leadership, she continues to invest in both her own development and the people around her. Through her example, Turner demonstrates how access to employment can empower individuals to grow, lead, and make a lasting difference in the workplace.
