Simeon Fowler

Brevard Achievement Center (BAC)

Simeon Fowler is nominated for the Tom Miller Advocacy Award. Fowler developed a service-related disability from working with hazardous ultrasonic equipment without proper protection during his time serving in the U.S. Air Force. Over the last 16 years, he advanced from a custodial position with Brevard Achievement Center at Kennedy Space Center in Florida to a lead floor worker mentoring others. He shares openly about his struggles with hearing loss and homelessness, connecting personal hardships to the need for strong disability employment policies. At a state level, Fowler shares his journey at events with nonprofit leaders and federal customers. At an AbilityOne Representatives national meeting in May, he candidly described how the AbilityOne Program gave him dignity and stability, moving military leaders and federal officials with his testimony. At SourceAmerica’s Grassroots Advocacy Conference, Fowler met with Congressional members, urging them to preserve and strengthen programs that create opportunities for people with disabilities and veterans.
