Service to Workplace Success: The Importance of Creating Employment Pathways for Veterans
For the second consecutive year, SourceAmerica is proud to be recognized for its dedication to recruit, hire, and retain veterans. SourceAmerica earned the 2026 VETS Indexes Four Star Employer Award after earning the VETS Indexes Three Star Employer Award in 2025. It strongly reflects our dedication to employing veterans with disabilities and supporting them in their new roles after serving their country.
Recipients of the VETS Indexes Employer Awards are selected based on their responses to VETS Indexes' survey, which examines veteran employment metrics. Employers are evaluated across five categories: veteran job candidate recruiting and hiring, veteran employee development and retention, veteran-inclusive policies and culture, support for members of the National Guard and Reserves, and military spouse/family support.
"The award shows SourceAmerica's commitment to employ veterans and military spouses because of their training, their understanding of the work we perform at various military installations, products we produce that are used by active-duty service members, and familiarity with federal procurement contracts within our program," Amanda King, vice president, human resources, said.
As a national nonprofit that helps administer the AbilityOne Program, SourceAmerica connects people with disabilities including veterans to employment opportunities through a nationwide network of AbilityOne federal contractors. For veterans, those opportunities often offer resources beyond employment, such as military-to-civilian employment transition assistance, job training, career counseling, and other services to boost on-the-job success. While our network of nonprofits employs thousands of veterans with disabilities, SourceAmerica also hires veterans within the national organization. We recognize the value, dedication, and skill veterans bring to the workforce.
"Employing veterans and veterans with disabilities is a reflection of the 41,000 stakeholders supported in the AbilityOne Program," King said. "Veterans and veterans with disabilities have a unique understanding of the AbilityOne workers who perform work on our federal contracts."
With specialized training, strong work-ethics, adaptability, and a mission-driven mindset, veterans bring unique skills and perspectives to the workforce. Our mission also appeals to veterans looking for employment after their service. SourceAmerica's roles offer them a chance to use their experience, work with a team towards a common goal, and serve a mission that helps other veterans and people with disabilities.
What are we doing to recruit and hire veterans? SourceAmerica is taking proactive steps to find, hire, and retain veterans. The organization sends its job postings through our partnership with Military.com. That includes outreach to active duty, transitioning service members, and veterans. This site is a direct partner to the Veterans Administration. We use social media for outreach to veterans throughout the year using our various social media channels. Our efforts also include a personal touch. Shelia Coleman is SourceAmerica's recruiting partner and a veteran herself. After serving in the Navy, Coleman is proud to share her experiences and resources with veterans transitioning from the military sector back to civilian employment.
SourceAmerica's 2026 VETS Indexes Four Star Employer Award reflects all of those recruiting efforts. King says SourceAmerica received an extra star from the previous year based on an increase in veteran employment and capturing how many military spouses are employed within the organization. As of May 2026, SourceAmerica employs nearly 50 veterans and at least two military spouses. That number is separate from the more than 2,700 veterans with disabilities employed on AbilityOne contracts through SourceAmerica's network.
Once a veteran is hired, they stay with SourceAmerica. Retention is high among veteran employees because SourceAmerica offers support services including the Veterans Employee Resource Group (VERG), a six-week mentorship program, and flexibility in work location. Accommodations vary on a case-by-case basis depending on individual needs. Employees can collaborate with their manager to make arrangements such as an adjusted work schedule.
Veterans can search the SourceAmerica Job Board for employment opportunities.
