SourceAmerica is proud and excited to announce that the organization recently earned the prestigious 2025 VETS Indexes Three Star Employer Award, an honor presented to companies that demonstrate commitment to recruiting, hiring, and retaining veterans. Receiving this award validates SourceAmerica’s efforts to become known as a leading employer of veterans and offers veteran jobseekers the confidence to apply for a role, knowing the organization is dedicated to providing the services needed to help them succeed and grow.

As an AbilityOne® authorized enterprise, SourceAmerica connects veterans with a nationwide network of AbilityOne federal contractors that often offer resources beyond employment, such as military-to-civilian employment transition assistance, job training, career counseling, and other services to boost on-the-job success.

Shelia Coleman, SourceAmerica recruiting partner, expressed her pride in achieving this award for the organization. Coleman, a veteran herself, explained that she is deeply committed to continuing to serve those who have served our country by actively recruiting more veteran employees and supporting them throughout their employment journey. “Veterans add value to every position by bringing a strong work ethic, leadership, adaptability, and specialized training which transfers into the civilian sector,” she said. For example, many veterans understand the federal procurement process, which is a revered skill at SourceAmerica. Coleman is honored and excited to share her firsthand experiences and help prepare fellow veterans transitioning into work outside the military.

Veteran jobseekers are often drawn to SourceAmerica because it is a mission-driven organization; having served in the military, they can relate to being part of a community with a shared mission and goals. “SourceAmerica’s mission of providing employment opportunities for people with disabilities resonates very well with our veteran employee population and veterans at large,” said Amanda King, vice president, human resources.  “They appreciate joining an organization in the private sector with a mission that we all support and drive towards – that’s very similar to their experience during active duty.”

Currently, the organization qualified for VETS Indexes 3 Star Employer Award and King explained that SourceAmerica plans to grow in this area and aims to achieve higher percentages of veteran employment in the future.

There is little turnover among veteran employees because SourceAmerica offers support services including the Veterans Employee Resource Group (VERG), a six-week mentorship program, and flexibility in work location for veterans and their significant others. Accommodations vary on a case-by-case basis depending on individual needs, but employees can collaborate with their manager to make arrangements such as an adjusted work schedule – taking breaks as needed or working from home. These are easily implemented ways to help retain valuable employees.

If an organization wishes to increase its veteran employee population, but doesn’t know where to start, King recommends keeping it simple and starting small. Advertise an interest in hiring veterans and slowly build your veteran employee base, one hire at a time.

For job seeking veterans, Coleman advises, “Networking is key. There are so many resource tools out there and so many organizations that support the hiring of veterans. It’s easy to get into those networks and have a presence. There’s a wealth of information out there.” Veterans can also search the SourceAmerica Job Board for employment opportunities.
