For more than 50 years, SourceAmerica® and its network of nonprofit agencies have been a leading provider of made in America products and essential services for the federal government under the AbilityOne® Program.
Creating competitive employment opportunities
First established in 1938, AbilityOne provides quality employment opportunities with competitive wages, benefits, and career advancement for people who are blind or have significant disabilities including veterans.
- Employment continues to grow through AbilityOne. In FY22, the AbilityOne Program employed 32,700 people with disabilities in SourceAmerica's network. That number increased to more than 37,600 in FY25*.
- More than 2,600 promotions and community placements happened in FY25* through SourceAmerica's network and more than 15,600 occurred in the last five years.
- SourceAmerica's network offers a variety of career options including administrative services, product manufacturing and packaging, contact center and IT services, laundry services, facilities management, and more.
- AbilityOne federal contractors do not use 14(c) certificates to pay employees. In FY25*, the average AbilityOne wage in SourceAmerica's network was $19.68 with $822 million wages paid to people with disabilities.
Supporting Domestic Manufacturing
Employees in SourceAmerica's network support made in America initiatives by manufacturing, assembling, and delivering mission-critical products for federal agencies and the military.
- In September 2025, the U.S. AbilityOne Commission® reaffirmed its commitment to the America First Trade Policy, ensuring the products and services on the AbilityOne Procurement List fully comply with all applicable domestic sourcing laws, particularly the Buy American Act of 1933, Trade Agreements Act, and the Make PPE in America Act.
- In SourceAmerica's network, 87% of Procurement List products are wholly Made in America. SourceAmerica is working with its AbilityOne federal contractors to identify U.S. made raw materials for any remaining products.
- AbilityOne employees manufacture products in America for the Department of War including combat ensembles, dress uniforms, cold weather clothing systems, fire-retardant personal protective gear, aircraft cargo nets, backpacks, vests, load-bearing equipment, tents, shelters, ponchos, coveralls, and more.
Generating Cost Savings for Federal Government
Doing business with AbilityOne is good business for America. The AbilityOne Program generates federal tax revenue and reduces the burden on government assistance programs.
- AbilityOne employees with disabilities pay an estimated $200 million per year in federal tax revenue.
- Contracting through AbilityOne saves an estimated $191 million per year on federal benefit programs.
- The average return on investment is an estimated at $2.66 for every $1 spent to administer the Program and can be as high as $4.40 for every dollar spent.
Supporting Our Nation's Defense
AbilityOne employees, including more than 2,700 veterans provide critical products, Made in America, and essential services to support the United States military and other federal agencies.
- AbilityOne federal contractors manufacture medical supplies, food products, including nuts and bakery mixes, American flags, and more for military personnel.
- AbilityOne employees provide a variety of services on military bases, such as fleet vehicle maintenance, custodial, food services, and grounds maintenance.
