Javits Wagner O'Day Act Modernization

SourceAmerica supports efforts to update and modernize the Javits Wagner O’Day Act as approved by the SourceAmerica Board of Directors. In a letter to AbilityOne Commission Chairman Jeffrey Koses, the SourceAmerica Board outlined recommended changes in support of the modernization of the JWOD Act. These include updating language to align with modern expectations of inclusion, creating efficiencies between complementary Federal legislation and programs, and removing barriers to expand the number and variety of employment opportunities accessible for all people with disabilities.

The main tenets of the suggested amendments include updating the definition of “significant disability’ to expand opportunities for people with disabilities, lowering the labor ratio to a minimum of 51% of people who are blind or have significant disabilities on AbilityOne contracts as measured by labor hours, and harmonizing the Federal employment standards.
