SourceAmerica and NIB Facilitate DLA AbilityOne Day

Walking through a packed exhibit hall at AbilityOne Day, over 450 Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support military leaders, contracting officials and service members got to see firsthand how people with disabilities employed at nonprofit agencies across the U.S. support them. The annual event, held during National Disability Awareness Month each October, gives nonprofit agencies within SourceAmerica and NIB networks a chance to exhibit the latest products they provide to support the warfighter.
SourceAmerica’s Chief Operating Officer Steve Krotonsky, Senior Vice President of Operations Joe Diaz, Senior Vice President of Growth Ellis Rosenberg, Assistant Vice President of Products Jill Johnson and Army/DoD Key Agency Executive Chuck Guta traveled to DLA Troop Support headquarters in Philadelphia for the evening reception on Oct. 23 and event on Oct. 24, which was sponsored by SourceAmerica and NIB. Representatives from the U.S. AbilityOne Commission also were in attendance. DLA Troop Support Executive Director for Contracting Bill Kenny, Senior Executive Service, kicked off the event with opening remarks.
Jack London, who coordinates AbilityOne Day, said it was one of the largest AbilityOne Days ever held.
"This event was unique in that it was co-sponsored by the Small Business Office and the Center's Equal Employment Office, which may have helped draw a bigger crowd among government staff," London said. "It was a great turnout."
Also at the event, SourceAmerica staff met with DLA Troop Support’s Senior Executive Service and Deputy Commander Richard Ellis and Small Business Director Mike McCall. They expressed their support of SourceAmerica, our mission and intention to explore new AbilityOne opportunities where we have capability and capacity. To close out the day, they toured DLA’s flag room where presidential flags are made.
According to Rosenberg, the entire event, from the setup to the logistics, helped showcase a true partnership with DLA.
"It was my first AbilityOne Day and I was very impressed with the range of AbilityOne products provided to the government and functions and services that DLA supports," said Ellis Rosenberg, SourceAmerica senior vice president of growth. "It brought it home to me how SourceAmerica, through our NPA community, are able to help those who are protecting us here and abroad."
