SourceAmerica Honors Senator Tom Carper as an AbilityOne Congressional Champion

Wilmington, DE, August 19, 2014 – SourceAmerica® announces U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.) as an AbilityOne® Congressional Champion. SourceAmerica awards members of congress the AbilityOne Champion designation because they demonstrate support for the AbilityOne Program, which employs nearly 50,000 people, and associated nonprofit agencies through congressional actions.

"It is an honor to be recognized by SourceAmerica," said Sen. Carper. "I always say the greatest thing you can do to help someone is to give them a job, and that is what the AbilityOne Program does for people with disabilities. I am proud of the work they do in Delaware and across the nation."

Sen. Carper is the chairman of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs and has jurisdiction over the AbilityOne Program and other government operations, such as federal contracting. He has supported legislation benefitting people with disabilities and directly engages with Opportunity Center Inc., in Delaware and DC. Opportunity Center Inc. is ServiceSource's Delaware Regional Office and offers people with disabilities resources and services.

SourceAmerica recognized Senator Carper at an event at the J.Caleb Boggs Federal Building in Wilmington, DE. The Senator met AbilityOne employees and learned about their work. The individuals are employed through a federal contract between the local nonprofit agency, Opportunity Center Inc. (dba ServiceSource), and the General Services Administration.

"Senator Carper has been a leader on employment and training programs throughout his career in public service at the federal and state level and is an enthusiastic supporter of Opportunity Center," said SourceAmerica Vice President, Corporate Communications, Marketing and Government Affairs Nancyellen Gentile, "We appreciate his work on behalf of people with significant disabilities and are proud to recognize him as an AbilityOne Congressional Champion."
