Registration for the SourceAmerica Design Challenge is Now Open to College Students

Vienna, Virginia , October 20, 2014 SourceAmerica® Design Challenge, an engineering competition that addresses employment challenges faced by people with disabilities, is now accepting applications from college teams. Each team is charged with researching, designing and developing technology to assist people with disabilities so that they can become more productive in the workplace or assume a new job. Team projects are due April 9, 2015.

"College student teams will partner with either an organization that employs people with disabilities, or an individual with a disability, to invent a process, device, system or software for a more productive work environment.

"Students are able to get out of the classroom to experience life as an engineer," said Charissa Garcia, Design Challenge Coordinator. "These future designers and entrepreneurs will develop their writing, math, presentation, and social skills, all while helping their community".

The three finalist teams will receive a trip to Washington, DC, to compete for first place and a chance to win up to $30,000 for their school, coach, team, and nonprofit.

"These students have an opportunity to receive great prizes," said Garcia, "but more importantly, they receive the potential to change a life."
