CyclePoint Celebrates First Anniversary of eRecycling, Creating Jobs for People with Disabilities

By SourceAmerica 01/05/2016

Vienna, VA – This first week of the new year, CyclePoint from SourceAmerica, the fastest-growing national network of nonprofit electronics recyclers, celebrates its first anniversary Jan. 5 with continued growth and expansion. In its first year, CyclePoint has expanded from 16 locations employing 94 people with disabilities to 51 locations employing 314 people with disabilities. That's a 319 percent increase in network participants and 334 percent increase in jobs for people with disabilities.

"We're grateful to the nonprofits that were trailblazers in this entrepreneurial endeavor and committed to our long-term goal of growing a national footprint in recycling," said Steven Elmore, CyclePoint senior team manager. "They proved that people with disabilities can be stewards and leaders of environmental change in the world."

Electronics recycling is a $20 billion industry that has doubled over five years and is projected to grow at a rate of 8 percent annually. The new line of business opens up revenue for member nonprofits and job opportunities for the people with disabilities that they serve.

"We have an incredible opportunity to quickly become the largest recycler in the United States and maybe even the world if all of our members join this movement to put thousands more people to work performing professional, safe, secure and environmentally responsible electronics recycling," Elmore said. "CyclePoint provides more than jobs; it can become the purpose by which the people we serve and the nonprofits that serve them become a global force that benefits every living thing on the planet."

CyclePoint is a program from SourceAmerica, a national nonprofit that works with member nonprofit agencies to create meaningful job opportunities for people with disabilities.

"CyclePoint is a natural extension of our commitment to help people with disabilities find meaningful work and to supporting the more than 1,000 agencies that make up SourceAmerica's nonprofit network," said SourceAmerica CEO Steve Soroka. "We're proud of the progress they've made and the positive difference they continue to make for the communities we serve."
