SourceAmerica Agencies Compete to Sell Their Products Through Walmart

Vote daily through Sept. 2 to help create jobs for people with disabilities

Vienna, VA – August 27, 2013 – SourceAmerica, one the nation's largest nonprofit agencies to create job opportunities for a skilled and dedicated workforce: people with disabilities, announced today that two of its community-based nonprofit agencies are participating in Walmart's "Get On The Shelf" competition to win the opportunity to sell their products through Walmart.

The nonprofit agencies – TradeWinds Rehabilitation Center, Gary, IN, and Challenge Enterprises, Green Cove, FL (in partnership with a commercial firm) – advanced to the audition round of Walmart's competition. During this stage, the public votes for their favorite products. After voting ends on Sept. 2, finalists will be featured in an original web series. Winners will have the opportunity to sell their products through walmart.com and one grand champion also will receive marketing support.

TradeWinds is marketing its Scrub Puppies non-abrasive scouring pads, which do not retain food or foul odors, and are made from 50 percent recycled material. Through a partnership with TLC, a landscaping company in Jacksonville, FL, Challenge Enterprises’ employees with disabilities are manufacturing TLC’s Weed Recede™, a compostable mulch bag. Weed Recede™ is a bag of soil that opens flat and prevents weeds from growing in gardens. The bag is coated with bio-plastic material that makes the bag last substantially longer than ordinary paper.
