Northrop Grumman wins NISH National Award
Northrop Grumman Chairman, CEO and President Wes Bush accepts award for commercial business partnership in support of the AbilityOne Program
Vienna, VA – June 28, 2013 – Northrop Grumman Corp. was named winner of a NISH national award for Commercial Business Partnership in Support of the AbilityOne® Program, NISH officials announced today. NISH President and CEO Bob Chamberlin presented Northrop Grumman Chairman, CEO and President Wes Bush with the award at a ceremony at the Northrop Grumman office in Falls Church, VA.
Northrop Grumman was honored for its partnership with MVLE Inc., a Springfield, VA-based nonprofit agency that encourages professional growth for people living with disabilities through employment and support services.
The partnership between Northrop Grumman and MVLE has created a stronger business base for the nonprofit agency and simultaneously progressed Northrop Grumman's corporate commitment to growing workforce diversity. As a result of the alliance, MVLE was the first nonprofit ever to be accepted into the Department of Defense Mentor-Protégé Program — a distinction that provides many benefits related to creating jobs for people with significant disabilities.
Chamberlin said the award is significant because the partnership being honored helped to enable the entire AbilityOne Network to better serve the community of people living with disabilities.
"This partnership is creating a win-win for both MVLE and the Northrop Grumman Corp.," he said. "It is creating a stronger business base for MVLE, while helping the AbilityOne Network expand from Federal and DoD contracting to develop commercial capabilities."
Bush agreed that the partnership has delivered significant benefits to the company.
"Our economy is driven by brain-power and innovation," Bush said. "We constantly look for the kind of talent that is getting harder and harder to find. The incredible pool of talent represented by people with significant disabilities in this country is an amazing resource. This talent is also a great source of diversity – in thought and understanding – for our company."
